FINAL TAKE / FINAL SLAP!

In Exit Through the Gift Shop, Banksy flips the script and takes a jab at the contemporary art world by turning the whole process on its head.
Everything Must Go is a retrospective of our three and a half years of artistic “projects” — poking fun at the value inversion between original artworks and their mass-produced, kitschy spinoffs.

As Walter Benjamin already asked before WWII: what becomes of art in the age of mechanical reproduction?
And in the 80s, Keith Haring tried to democratize art by selling his work through t-shirts, badges, skateboards, and prints in his iconic Pop Shop in New York.

Art Now Projects doesn’t pretend to be Haring — but under the playful curation of Aline Kundig and Frédéric Elkaim, the Dada spirit and irreverent humor of this final show strike at the heart of a troubling shift: the poetic essence of art being replaced by merch.

The “originals” — works shown across our 35 exhibitions — now serve as templates for derivative products, like transfers and tacky souvenirs. While bucket hats, keychains, and dish towels are exalted like treasures, the original works sit quietly behind the desk.
So… is that what we want? It’s so much easier to spend 30 francs on a mug, a snow globe, a t-shirt, a mousepad…
Soooooo coooool, soooo Arty!!!!!

We hope this will be a farewell party worthy of the generosity and creativity of our artists — and that the cash register rings loud and clear.
So yes: feel good with the goodies, and above all, don’t forget:
