To die in homeland/Morire in patria
What is a homeland? What do death and mourning mean for diasporas and multicultural people? What political and societal issues remain after death?
These are the questions that artist and filmmaker Juli Sando asked herself during her residency at Istituto Svizzero in Milan.
For one evening, she invites four artists to explore these themes alongside her own work: Fhunyue Gao with her enchanting solo musical performance « YUE月 G », a tribute to her deceased grandparents, Jeanne Tara with their project « La Restitution » addressing the mourning of our stolen memories, Xin Alessandro Zheng with his short film « Where the Leaves Fall » which explores grief through a diasporic gaze, and finally Melty’n Pothead with a new performance « I’ll twerk on your ancestor’s grave » which through song, drag and lip-sync stuns with melodies of resistance.
